About Speak Up!
Speak Up! – Empowering CSOs to Protect Children and Youth’s Freedom of Expression by Capitalising on the Opportunities and Addressing the Challenges of the Digital Space in Bangladesh is a three-year project funded by the European Union and implemented by Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) in partnership with Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), Breaking the Silence (BTS), and INCIDIN Bangladesh.
The project aims to create safer and more inclusive digital spaces where children and young people can express themselves freely, participate meaningfully, and be protected from online violence, abuse, and exploitation. It strengthens the capacity of civil society organizations, empowers children and youth with digital safety knowledge and skills, and promotes collaboration among government, communities, media, and the private sector to improve child protection in the digital environment.
Project Objectives
The Speak Up! project works towards three key objectives:
- Strengthen Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)to promote children's rights, digital safety, and freedom of expression.
- Empower children and youth with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate safely and responsibly in digital spaces.
- Promote policies and collaboration that strengthen child protection systems and create safer, more inclusive digital environments.
Key Activities
The Speak Up! project works with children, youth, civil society organizations, government institutions, and communities through a range of activities, including:
Strengthening the capacity of CSOs to promote digital safety and children's rights.
Building the digital literacy and online safety skills of children and youth.
Supporting community awareness and engagement on child protection in the digital environment.
Strengthening referral and protection mechanisms for children affected by online risks.
Conducting research and generating evidence to inform advocacy and policy.
Fostering dialogue among key stakeholders to advance online safety and freedom of expression.

Expected Results
Through the Speak Up! project, we aim to achieve:
Stronger civil society organizations that promote and protect the digital rights of children and youth.
Children and young people with increased knowledge, confidence, and skills to use digital spaces safely and express themselves freely.
Improved collaboration among government, civil society, media, and communities to prevent and respond to online risks.
Increased awareness and stronger advocacy for safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly digital environments in Bangladesh.
