Khude Barmi, Gazipur | 19 January 2026, 10 PM (incident) | Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)

Hasina (pseudonym), a 25-year-old housewife in Khude Barmi village, received a threatening message late at night from a fake social media account. The sender demanded to meet her in person, threatening to harm her son and to create and circulate obscene manipulated images of her on Facebook if she refused.

Hasina contacted Selina Akhter, a community organiser with ASK’s Speak Up project, and reported the full incident. ASK referred her to the local police station, where she lodged a GD against the perpetrator on 2 February 2026. When the response from the police station was slow, Hasina returned to the Speak Up project office in Gazipur, where the Project Officer referred her directly to the Cyber Crime Unit’s head office, providing their contact details and guidance on documenting the harassment through a formal message. She submitted her report accordingly.

The harassment stopped the day after the Cyber Crime Unit took protective action. When contacted again for follow-up, Hasina confirmed that everything is fine and she has not been bothered since.
