INCIDIN Bangladesh
About us
The acronym INCIDIN Bangladesh stands for Integrated Community & Industrial Development Initiative in Bangladesh. INCIDIN Bangladesh launched its program in 1995, as a research organization, conducting Participatory Action Research (PAR) with an Adivashi community (Garo ethnic community) in central Bangladesh. At the same year we have undertaken PAR with children known as “Bihari” (the community migrated from Bihar, India, before 1947, and opted for to be citizen of Pakistan, which never accepted them) who are working in weaving trade. This was to understand the impact of the “Harkin’s Bill” (against child labor) on the working children in Bangladesh. Around the same time, another PAR was undertaken with the sexually exploited street children of Dhaka City. It is important to mention that in both cases of PAR with children was an unconventional initiative, as the participants were not the “target” of mainstream NGOs in Bangladesh.
Our Work
INCIDIN Bangladesh gives special attention towards children, youth, women, peasants, indigenous people, and other vulnerable social groups, assisting and empowering them through policy-level advocacy, awareness programs, training, and other support services.
INCIDIN Bangladesh also conducts participatory social research, evaluations, and strategic planning workshops as part of its community development programs. In addition, the organization upholds strong working relationships with government agencies as well as national and local NGOs, running similar training programs all over Bangladesh for local-level partners.
Due to its activist background, the core value of INCIDIN Bangladesh is to remain non-bureaucratic and non-hierarchical. The emphasis on professionalism is high, maintaining a strong focus on producing quality output guided by the values of participatory democracy. To achieve policy changes and strategic impact on critical issues—such as labor rights, farmer rights, and child rights—INCIDIN Bangladesh creates knowledge through Action Research, gathers community experiences as good practices, and builds awareness around the constraints and prospects of overall development.
