Justice and legal support for a young survivor

Hatia, City Corporation, Gazipur | 1 May 2026, approx. 3 PM (incident) | Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)

Joba (pseudonym), age 3, daughter of Afsana and Khairul (pseudonyms), was sexually assaulted by a close relative and neighbour while playing at a neighbouring house in Hatia, City Corporation, Gazipur, where she regularly went to play with two other children her age. The child was immediately taken to the emergency department of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for treatment.

A rape case was subsequently filed at the Metro Police Station. When the accused began threatening the family during the legal process, Joba’s mother sought legal assistance through ASK’s enlisted CSO network under the Speak Up project. Accompanied by ASK’s project officer and community organiser, she approached the District Legal Aid Office, and through referral support under the Speak Up project, a lawyer from the District Legal Aid Committee was appointed to represent the victim’s case.

According to the latest follow-up with the family, the accused remains in jail and the case is proceeding through the courts.
