Thirty staff members from Breaking the Silence (BTS), Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), and INCIDIN Bangladesh took part in a day-long orientation on child safeguarding on 10 July 2025 at the YWCA Conference Room, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, as part of the European Union-funded “Speak Up!” project.

The session was facilitated by Md. Nurul Kabir and formed part of a series of workshops Terre des Hommes Netherlands is organising with partner staff to strengthen safeguarding practice across the project, ahead of a full Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment (CSRA).

Building a shared safeguarding foundation

Participants began with an introduction to the Integrity Framework and the core principles of safeguarding, before moving into a detailed look at the Code of Conduct on safeguarding and the Child Safeguarding Rules that apply to all staff. Interactive exercises throughout the day encouraged participants to apply what they were learning to real scenarios from their own work with children and youth.

The afternoon focused on the Code of Conduct in depth — its key themes and how they connect to Terre des Hommes Netherlands’ organisational values — followed by a practical exercise giving participants the chance to work through safeguarding scenarios together. The day closed with a joint feedback session across all three partner organisations.

Why it matters

“Speak Up!” works to protect children and youth from online sexual exploitation and abuse, cyberbullying, and digital harassment, with a strong focus on gender and inclusion. Ensuring the staff delivering the project understand and can apply safeguarding principles is a foundational step — one that will directly inform the project’s Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and its ongoing prevention and response measures.
