Preeti (pseudonym), daughter of Babul Mia, was walking with a friend near her home in Tok, Kapasia when a group of boys at a nearby intersection began directing obscene comments and insults at her. The harassment continued for three to four days, escalating when one of the boys obtained her friend’s mobile number and began making repeated, intimidating calls.

As the situation became unbearable, Preeti and her friend confided in an elder brother in the community who was a Change Agent member of the “Speak Up!” project. He advised them to approach ASK’s Speak Up project office in Gazipur. ASK first helped the girls lodge a General Diary (GD) at the police station, and the following day, a CSO member and several Change Agents visited the area with them to speak directly with the boys involved about the harm caused by eve-teasing. The boys acknowledged their behaviour, expressed regret, and committed not to repeat it.

With ASK’s legal and psychosocial support, Preeti gained a clearer understanding of her rights and the options available to her. Her sense of security and confidence has grown, and she now moves through her neighbourhood without hesitation.
